Roll Call!

A writer's group that I'm a part of with my current publisher recently did a "Roll Call", where all of us authors listed what we're working on, and just chimed in with encouragement or advice or questions.

I think that'd be fun to do here!

I'll go first.

I'm waiting to hear back on a proposal for Love Inspired about a single mom and a fireman. The story has a lot of family tension, cute little kids, a fundraiser, and plenty of romantic sparks ;)

Your turn! What is your current WIP? Have you sent something out to an agent or editor yet? Share as much about your current project as you feel comfortable.

ROLL CALL!

  1. I'm working on a romance about a woman with a farmhouse that's falling a part and the man who convinced her fiancee to call off their wedding.

  2. I'm working on "Confessions of an Organized Homeschool Mom," a how-to book. Not too long, not too short, lots of helpful tips (at least that's the plan). I've written several well-received e-books and I'm starting to speak and I've got a blog (the ubiquitous platform).

  3. I'm in the middle of working on my first novel! I've started lots of stories but never actually finished, but this one i'm determined to finish! it's about a patient in an intensive care unit, a hospital secretary, and a college student and how there lives intertwine.

  4. I'm working on a chick-lit novel.

It's about a girl named Emily, her two room mates, their next door neighbor of the male variety, and a handsome Brit named Charles Weston who can be described as a modern day Mr Darcy. Unintentionally I have brought in Jane Austenesque themes but I have embraced it and I am running with it. It shall be fun to make the outcome. =] That is all I shall say.

  5. I'm working on a (Christian) suspense about a teenage girl who's an orphan in the foster system. Her entire family is dead... or is someone she knows closer to her than she thinks? While the mystery of her identity is unraveling, she has to deal with an obsessed abusive foster parent, and learn what forgiveness really means :)

    Fun story to write :)

  6. I thought I was on a quick last edit of my WIP#2, but realized I need a massive rewrite.

So 6 chapters into writing WIP#3, I'm laying it aside to totally rewrite WIP#2 changing the emotional/motivational arcs for both hero and heroine and adding some conflict and backstory (I know, I know, just backstory that justifies motivations, not like scenes of backstory :)

  8. I'm polishing my romantic suspense novel in hopes of pitching it at my first conference next month. It's probably too soon, but you have to start somewhere!

  9. I am working on a YA novel with a fourteen year old girl that comes to Christ, but her parents are atheists. And her struggle to let go of her old life and friends, but in the end she does. And them I'm working on a YA Steampunk novel about twin sisters. Victorian era Atlanta where they need to find a jewel. I guess that's too vague.
Just an aside. I have my first sale on www.everydayfiction.com called Chocolate Milk if you would like to read it. You would have to scroll down, though, since it was published yesterday.

Oh, then I need to finish another flashfiction story about the Grim Reaper. It's a personal story about my friend who died of Cancer last November, and seeing Christ in her despite the pain and leaving behind a husband and four young kids. To have a woman cry out to God "make me content" when she is riddled with cancer that is amazing. I miss her, but I will see her again and can't wait for my faith to become sight.
Okay, that was off topic. Sorry.

  11. I can't exactly say it's a WIP (it's been sidelined for the moment until this semester is over) but it is something I'm working on and hoping to do more with during the summer.

Mainly, my story is about a girl, a pastor's kid, who leaves home for the first time to attend college in a different state, far away from any of the conveniences of home. She's placed with a roommate whose the complete opposite of hers and has to deal with a lot of conflicting opinions about religion and faith. And she has to figure out why she believes in what she does and to stop riding on the coattails of her parents' faith.

  12. Wow! All these ideas sound great! Do you guys as writers struggle with feelings of insecurity like your ideas are absolutely lame, especially when you here about others ideas? I don't know what to do about the constant second guessing eventhough I love to write?

  13. I just finished writing the first draft of a scene for my Christian Writer's Guild Journeyman lesson.

I am also working on my first novel. A story about a 30 something man who has lost his wife and daughter and a teenaged girl who has lost her best friend. Their unlikely friendship grows as they struggle through healing and forgiveness.
