Deadline hangover

I'm here!

I think!

I'm still trying to adjust to the light.

I was up 'til 1:45 the past few mornings writing furiously for my new deadline with Zondervan, and well, I'm on a deadline hangover. I have no other words to describe it. Because they're all (my words, that is) now in a document on my editor's desk.

But I'm here!

I think!

What is everyone up to? How's everyone's writing and projects going? :) Anyone have any questions? I need a topic to write about for you sweet people. I feel a little out of the loop, like I haven't been around this blog for years instead of a few weeks.

Why is the sun so BRIGHT????

  1. My writing projects are going well! My second novel was just published and I am furiously writing away on a third and fourth one. :) Congrats on getting your assignment done!

  2. Yay for finished deadlines! :)

I have a question: can we talk about conferences a little more? I'm getting ready to register for ACFW (Yay! My first conference!) and I'm stressing a bit. How do you decide about appointments - should I meet with an editor? Or just an agent and a mentor? I should have my manuscript finished by the time I go, but I've never officially talked to anyone in the industry (although I do have a couple of contacts.)

Also, can someone explain what a "one-sheet" is supposed to look like?

Okay, I guess that was more than one question. :)

    1. Dana, this is EXACTLY what I've been going through - I had all the exact same questions! YAY for going to the conference!!

Sarah recommended one mentor and one agent appointment to me (it took me forever to sift through, deciding who). She also commented about one-sheets a while back...but I don't know where.

I'm putting a link here that was very helpful to me (this agent is also going to be at the conference, so I felt it was a reliable source.) I also googled one-sheets and found some inspiring examples.

I'm sure the Scribble Chicks can answer questions better, but I wanted to answer b/c I know how you feel! :)

  3. Hi Dana! I'll post about the conference on Wednesday :) So glad you're coming to ACFW! Be sure to find me!!!! It's going to be awesome.

    First - don't stress.

Second - definitely meet with an agent and a mentor if you can. Editor would be last on the list but if there's an opportunity for all 3, do all 3! :)

Third - Being able to tell industry professionals that your manuscript is completed is significant, so definitely try to finish it before you go. If you get close, though, that's okay! They just need to know you can finish a novel :) Don't let that overwhelm you, but definitely give completing it your best shot beforehand.

    1. Thanks Betsy! I'll definitely look for you at the conference!! I can't wait!

Your advice has been so helpful already. I signed up for appointments with a mentor and an agent, and I'm really working to get that manuscript finished. (And I'm trying hard not to stress! Ha ha)

Looking forward to your post! Thanks again! :)
