Perfect illustration with Twilight!Erynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06203316627435574964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839097860063281306.post-4286371064182444602009-09-09T11:51:41.019-07:002009-09-09T11:51:41.019-07:00I had ZERO interest in Twilight. Not even a blip ...I had ZERO interest in Twilight. Not even a blip on my radar at all. Then my writer's group decided to go see it as a field trip, analyzing it over coffee afterward. I went just to participate, and I got hooked despite myself.

Betsy's right. It's all about the characters and the internal and external conflict. You can't help rooting for doomed love. You want to see people make it despite the fact that the chances of it working out are slim to none.

For me, the same holds true for any story I pick up. If I can't feel for the characters and their situation pretty much from page one, let's just say I'm not going to purchase a ticket to ride along side them on their journey.

Yet somehow, when it comes to my own writing, I often forget about the internal struggle. Thanks, Betsy for reminding me of that! I know my stories are going to be the better for it.Christianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06586252875762284767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839097860063281306.post-28792451503236839682009-09-09T10:35:46.356-07:002009-09-09T10:35:46.356-07:00Loved reading this post; thanks :) Characters are ...Loved reading this post; thanks :) Characters are my favorite part about books, whether I'm reading a novel by another author or writing my own. And what you said about each character being partly you... so true. Every character I create has a little bit of me in them... sometimes not much. Sometimes it's just a common interest/hobby, or a character quality we share... but they're always a little like myself :)
And nah, I've never been able to get into Twilight. Grosses me out. Bella's all like, but I know he really loves me because he hasn't tried to eat me yet! How romantic. Ick.Ariannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01589135137684159051noreply@blogger.com
